Finally and English interview!

Monday 28th of May 2007

This is available in it's proper form in Spanish at http://www.absolutzine.com/

Hey Barcelona!

Here is an interview between Kerry Davis from Two Tears and Molly Neuman her label lady at Simple Social Graces Discos. They met in Madrid for Ladifiesta España 2005 and never looked back. Kerry's new record "Little Tea" was released on Simple Social Graces Discos in February 2007 and is a garage rock delight. Produced by Gar (Hot Snakes, Beehive and The Baracudas) in San Diego, the songs are smart, fun and Kerry's voice can break your heart. Make sure to see her on 31 Mayo at Heliogabal and make sure to buy her a gintoniiiiiiii.

Kerry! We met in spain. How do you feel about playing there again?

I love Spain and have been playing there for about 3 years now. The crowds are always friendly and having so much FUN and that's my goal at my shows. I like to talk to the crowd and feel like we are in it together and in Spain people react and shout encouragement and dance. I also love the language and culture, seeing old ladies hanging out on the street playing cards at 1am. I also love pulpo a la plancha. I'm so excited to see the friends I have made over the years and I want to do a really good job rock-wise, especially in Barcelona.

What is it like living in dubai? Especially as a Jersey girl?

Living in Dubai has been very interesting so far though I get a bit lonely because I have no friends and there is no underground. Also, I'm into walking around weird neighborhoods and taking photos and eating in local cafes than than participating in the "glamour" or ex-pat side of Dubai. I have learned alot about Arab culture and my view of Muslim women has changed dramatically. The Emirati girls wear their "headscarves" draped over giant hair-do's , so it looks like a BEEHIVE! Combined with big ole high heels and black eyeliner or black sunglasses, they look like they could be in the Ronettes. I love their look and I don't think they are repressed like I once did.

Your songs are so cool and smart. What's your songwriting inspiration?

Well, I am very selfish and have high expectations, but also love the down and dirty side of life, so the jolie/laide-brutti ma buoni-ugly/pretty contrast thing is something I try to do. Some I want to feel like a purple, starry night somewhere all fancy and others I want to feel like an old blues lady digging a hole to throw her boyfriend in after he has broken her heart again. Some I just want to be punk songs and express frustration and aggression.

How long have you been playing guitar? What tips do you have for other girls who want to start playing?

I have been playing guitar for 16 YEARS! I can't believe it! I should be so much better than I am. I think girls who want to play guitar should do exactly what I did (hahaha) and start a band with friends who suck as bad as you do and never look back. Never be afraid or think you can't do it, never apologize for your playing. Play all the time,be organized with rehearsals and professional from the beginning and claim that you are a girl with a guitar! Because that makes you special! I love my guitar, it changed my whole life, I hug and kiss it when I take it out of it's case.

Have you been brushing up on your Catalan for your big barcelona show?

Molt ben!

NO! I need to really bad! Last time I was in Barcelona I thought the recycling machine for cans and bottles was to buy beer and I tried to put a euro in it! Hahahahahaah!!!! Catalunya here I come!!!!!
