Interview between Ekhi and Massimo!
Wednesday 07th of March 2007
I love my friends this is pretty obvious. And when I think my friends should be friends and they live on different continents and it's difficult for us all to hang out I think maybe we should have a ciber meeting. So here are two of my favorite friends. Ekhi Lopetegi de la Granja, lead singer and bass player for Delorean answering questions asked by Massimo Scodditi, singer for my group Love or Perish, DJ on East Village Radio's "Know Your Rights" program, and my total gay boyfriend brother.
Anyway... here is their interview. If you have any questions, email me here at
molly@simplesocialgraces.com

1. How did you meet Molly?
On SecondLife.
2. Do you think she is bossy?
Bossy but sweet
ok, seriously though, real questions.
First of all: this keyword is french; azerty they call it. it sucks. you have to push shift for dots and numbers, qnd i usually press q instead of a qnd a instead of q, or vieceversa.
1. Your band is not well known in the United States, and if it weren't for Molly, I would've never been able to discover it. I hear you are big in Germany? What's that like, and are you aware that David Hasselhoff is famous in Germany as well? Does that take away from any success you may have had there?
Delorean is not big in germany although we've toured 4 times there. In fact last toured not many people showed up to our shows. But we made a few shows with a huge german band called "wir sind helden". It was awesome playing for at least 3 thousand people. And yes david is super famous. Do you know what was the first thing people from eastern germany saw after the berlin wall was destroyed? Of course, David. I heard he is having some alcohol problems now.
2. What are your influences? I mean the musical ones seem obvious -- Talking Heads, Daft Punk, the Cure -- but what are the other artistic influences that we may not know about?
Mmm... I'm not sure. I don't really like that term, "influences". Contemorary world wide chaos is shaping our sound somehow. That's not art though. Mmm... Our friends drawings... concerning the lyrics a crazy sculptor called Jorge Oteiza who is simply the total end of sculpture.
3. What do you do in your spare time?
I study, i cook or eat. I go to Santesmasses' for good home made cuisine. I mostly spare time (is that correct). But i'm not sure wether the spare time/busy time difference makes any sense in my life or not.
5. Tell us about Euskal Herria, what is it like there -- some things people dont know that you think they should.
That is good looking. The food is good even if it's a little more conservative than the mediterranean. The pintxos are awesome. It's basically traditional micro scale cuisine. A small slice of bread supports a combination of different ingredients aiming to generate the maximun pleasure in your palate in a short period of time of two bites.
4. When you hear the word, revolution, what do you think about? The word, at least in English, has dual meanings -- it can be used as an upheaval or change, but it also is used in astronomy to describe the movement of planets, does it mean the same in Spanish, or Basque?
In Basque it's Iraultza, wich means something more close to english word "capsize". I think it sounds cooler in Basque. Anyhow, i don't like the word Revolution because it always ends up being a non political concept. There is not such a big thing called "Revolution" or a "Revolutionary Mouvemet" in the same way as there is not a "Humankind Progress through Enlightment". Those words always imply a mythical narrative. Of course there are riots and small transformational processes but never total emancipatory Revolutions. Somehow, it's counterrevolutionary talking about Revolution.
5. Being from the Basque country (Euskal Herria, or Euskadi) provides you with a unique perspective in Europe and the world, as the Basque culture and history is one that dates before Roman times, and has remained unique through years of occupation and oppression, how does that influence your perspective in music and culture?
We made a choice when we got into music, that was not having anything to do with basque music and politics. That was a political choice. Somehow we knew the Basque politics had nothing to do with us and we were right. The so called Conflict has become a spectacular conflict as far as it's not truly linked to people's everyday life. It's pseudopolitics, and the worst thing is it's truly tragic even though the tragedy itself is senseless. It over-determines the whole social field becoming some kind of Power Regime that reproduces social order. The Conflict ends up generating social Order through small disorders. That's the sad situation we live today.
6. What is it like living in Barcelona, another region in Spain where its has chafed at being considered part of Spain?
Well, to be honest i don't care about territorial subjects. They're bullshit. But Barcelona is cool, even if it could be cooler if it hasn't been sold to turism and the rent would be cheaper. Cheaper rents would help, definitely. But yes, it's awesome. I love it there. If you're in the high part of the city you can look at the sea. And summer's good if you can stay up on the roof and look at the urban landscape or sunbath. Summer's awesome there.
7. Have you ever been to the States, and if so, where? What did you think?
Yes, i've been there and it's crazy. I love the US because it's insane. It's a crazy country, mostly the big cities. I told Molly the other day that living in a contry with no tradition can be the best and the worst. I think i love it because the lack of a milenary history makes it act like crazy machine where crazy things happen and i feel like people's very loose because of it.
8. What are you reading at the moment, what are you listening to?
I'm listening to Clipse's last qlbum, Diplo's Florida, Das Glow's Cathedral, Spank Rock, Dj Assault's Mista mothefucka... And reading Foucault and Wittgenstein for my studies.
9. What is the rock/punk scene in Barcelona like? What was it like when you were still living at home?
The rock punk scene in BCN... there are some cool bands and some that are not that cool. But i think that at least there are things happening. And i'm not sure if i remember how was it to live at home...
10. Have you ever met Maurix? And if so, what are your impressions of him?
Maurix is "over-impressive" himself, i don't knoz if that makes any sense in english, i just made it up. We could call him hurricane maurix or something like that. It's been a long time since the last time i met him.
11. What are your plans with Delorean? The 12" comes out on Molly's label in a month or so, but do you have any plans to come to the U.S. to play shows?
After the 12 inch there the Transatlantic KK album with a new song we made with my sister LO rapping on it that it's called Apocalypse ghetho blast. And we hope we can go play some shows this year.
12. How did Delorean start, where you all friends?
We were friends and we started to practice.
13. What's your favorite band of all time?
Mmm... i don't know... Campamento ñec ñec right now.
14. I hear you are studying Ancient Greek, what are you doing that for?
It's just my studies. Im doing philosphy, i think it makes sense if you do that.
15. Do you like gay people?
I like queers better.
